Lea Zeise’s ukwehuwene name is Hutka:húni, Quiltmaker. She grew up on Talukowáne Place of Many Ducks territory of Onʌyote’a:ká People of the Standing Stone (Oneida). Her family and community taught her to care for the land and people. She tries to live up to her responsibilities through two organizations she helped found – Braiding the Sacred and Ohe:láku. Both organizations steward traditional corn teachings, lands, relationships, responsibilities, and seeds to honor past generations and protect present and future generations. None of this work could have been done alone, and I'm grateful to be here to speak and share the work of many. Her professional role is Assistant Director of the Office of Environmental Resources Management at a Tribal non-profit, United South and Eastern Tribes.
