Gerard O’Neill has worked in the audio industry for over 25 years. working initially as a live engineer for radio station Artsound FM 92.7 and private studios he later commenced his career at the National Film and Sound Archive (NFSA) in 2009 where he quickly established expertise in groove-based recordings and becoming Senior Disc Preservationist. Gerry’s work has included the preservation/conservation and digitisation of many of Australia’s earliest and rarest recordings including those on cylinder, record disc and wire. Examples include: Thomas Rome, Percy Grainger, Vic Jones and Strehlow recording collections.
Throughout his career Gerry has demonstrated vintage recording techniques and equipment to a wide variety of audiences including: radio, Television, workshops and conferences, folk festivals, and art galleries. An aspect of these demonstrations has involved recording well known contemporary Australian artists on vintage formats.
