Liz Cotton is Director Museum & Arts at Waikato Museum, leading the strategic direction and management of this significant regional museum and art gallery, and arts strategy for Hamilton City Council. Prior to this, she was Head of Planning & Operations at Waitangi Treaty Grounds, managing the curatorial, education, cultural, visitor services and facilities operations across Aotearoa New Zealand’s most important historic site. Elizabeth was previously Head of Human History at Tāmaki Paenga Hira Auckland Museum, leading the curatorial and collection management teams across the Māori, Pacific, Archaeology, Applied Arts & Design, and History areas of the Museum and has central government experience as Senior Adviser on heritage legislation at Manatu Taonga. Elizabeth is Chair of the ICOM Aotearoa New Zealand Committee, a current member of the Lotteries Environment & Heritage (LEH) Committee and Te Tuhi Contemporary Arts Trust, and was past chair and member of the Museums Aotearoa Board.
