Description
Older New Zealanders' oral health is suboptimal and their oral health care needs are high, largely owing to improved retention of natural teeth and a high comorbidity prevalence among our older population. Although recognised as being important for older people's overall health and wellbeing, NZ's current oral health care processes, at aged care sector or health system levels, are not fit-for-purpose. New ways of addressing older people's oral health are urgently needed. This presentation will highlight programmes that aimed to improve the provision of oral health care for our older people—both those ageing in place in the community and those living in residential care—and, in turn, their oral health.
