Project J involved a novel approach based on scientific discoveries made in Aotearoa, to apply to the brain a specific pattern of electrical stimulation via implanted electrodes to improve function after stroke. This worked very well in a very small number of participants, however lessons learnt along the way have shaped our approach in new directions that we are applying in current and future studies. Following this Ageing Well project, and informed by its outcomes, we aim to provide new options for treating debilitating brain disorders.
