Originally from Himatangi, Rangimahora, is of Raukawa, Ngāti Maniapoto, Waikato-Tainui, Ngāti Rangiwewehi, and Rangitāne descent. The CEO for Rauawaawa Kaumātua Charitable Trust since 2010, she has an educational background in accountancy and a Masterate in Business Studies from Massey University. Currently, she is leading with her team, the redevelopment of the 1941 Rauawaawa facilities to create a dementia and age-friendly community space that prioritises cultural appropriateness and accessibility for our Kaumātua. Experienced, in supporting Kaumātua-led initiatives such as the recent Kuki Reka Kani – cookie cutters project, the National Kaumatua Service Provider conferences and more recently the Kaumātua story telling through AI initiative, Rangimahora highlights the significant potential of Kaumātua when supported with the right environment. Working with Kaumātua, or those she describes as “ngā matauranga taonga” makes Rauawaawa a very privileged place to be. Funded by the Ageing Well National Science Challenge, Rangimahora has been honoured to be part of two collaborative research projects led by the University of Waikato, that have centred on Kaumātua wellbeing, as well as more recently seconded part-time to the Ministry of Health as an Ageing Well Fellow.
