Malia is a Tongan born NZ citizen had embraced community work in Wellington briefly, 70s and in Auckland from early 80s. Malia has 5 sons and 11 grandchildren.

Malia is the founder and CEO of TOA (Treasuring Older Adults) Pacific Incorporated. An organisation with Rights focused and outcome driven services. TOA Pacific is an approved MSD provider that had its beginnings in the mid-90s, promoting health, wellness, and safety of Pacific Older People. TOA Pacific continues to deliver an Elder Abuse Response service since 2000. TOA Pacific’s qualified social workers deliver its family violence service takes a ‘client focused, and outcome driven’ approach. They navigate and support older people who are victims of elder abuse.

Malia managed two Ageing-in-Place initiatives for the Ministry of Health 2003. One of these initiatives is the Day Activity Maama program the source of joy for older people attending the three weekly sessions. An intergenerational health initiative where a youth group join in and help run the programme.

A co-investigator of the Ageing Well Pacific end-of-life care research, Tapinga-a-Maama. She was honoured to co-present with Dr Ofa Dewes, the findings of this ‘end of life’ care study, Tapinga-‘a-Maama’ at the 2018 Boston Oncology Conference.
