John joined JBWere in January 2020 from a boutique for-purpose advisory business he co-founded in 2009. He leads JBWere NZ Philanthropic Services that works alongside its Investment Advisors to assist philanthropic families and purpose-led organisations in Aotearoa New Zealand to achieve lasting positive impact.

He co-authored the 2021 New Zealand Cause Report and the inaugural 2022 New Zealand Corporate Support Report, which looks at local corporate generosity and community investment. A former banker and lawyer who has worked in the not for profit sector, John has dedicated the past 14 years to working with diverse boards, organisations and individuals that are on their sustainability journeys and fostering positive social and environmental change. John's expertise includes advising on the establishment and structure of significant fundraising and granting foundations. Across Australia and New Zealand JBWere Philanthropic Services supports 700 purpose-led clients.

John also serves on the board of Festival One, a charitable company that annually runs a four-day festival in partnership with Ngāti Hauā and Waikato Tainui.
