Speaker Bio
Joyce-Anne is a very proud Māori public servant serving both the 20th and 21st centuries! Her career has incorporated a number of Wellington based Ministry’s and Departments including MSD in 2004-08 when she was the Philanthropy Relationship Manager working closely with former PNZ CEO Robyn Scott. In 2013, her and husband Francis made a Māori urbanisation reverse decision to return to his hau kāinga on the East Coast arriving in Te Matau a Māui for five years with their daughters Ripeka and Rachel. During this time Joyce-Anne was appointed as the DOC Napier and Wairoa Partnerships Manager, then took a senior Māori position at the Hawke’s Bay Regional Council. Operating in the domain of te taiao policy, she worked closely with Post Settlement Governance Entities and Māori landowners which provided in-depth insight to the roles of kaitiakitanga and settlement commitments.

Currently Joyce-Anne is seconded back to the Hawke’s Bay working with Iwi/ Māori and local government focusing on the changes to the RMA and offering MfE support to those impacted by Cyclone Gabrielle 14th February 2023.

In 2018 Joyce-Anne was privileged to work alongside the Huramua community in Wairoa with the repatriation of their ‘taonga’ from their urupā with funding secured from JR McKenzie. A recent visit to Mātiti urupā highlighted the forward thinking by the Huramua whānau members to have moved their ‘taonga’ as the damage caused by the recent cyclone would have been devasting for all. Joyce-Anne hopes to share those opportunities that the philanthropic sector can offer to assist Iwi/ Māori in these climate changing times.
