Description

The sociotechnical environment in which we and our organisations operate is increasingly characterised by the launch and swift normalisation of staggering technical advances in artificial intelligence, automation, and beyond. The already rapid pace of development is now seemingly exponential. The capabilities of Chat-GPT 3, for example, released in late 2022, are dwarfed by that of Chat-GPT 4, released less than six months later. These technologies are not going away, and our visitors (and staff!) are already using them. But what do they mean for cultural organisations? And how can our (sometimes slow moving) sector keep up? In this panel, members of ACMI’s Experience and Technology teams will present and demo some of our current experiments on the digital cutting edge – from image recognition, to video search, web3, and open linked data. We will reflect on where we see real potential, our focus on centring audiences, and outline our decision-making around technologies we are so far choosing not to invest in.
