Erin Matariki Carr (Ngāi Tūhoe, Ngāti Awa, Pākehā) grew up in Whakatāne and lives in Tāneatua, north of Te Urewera. Matariki is a lawyer, researcher and facilitator with interest in the restoration of Indigenous legal systems and governance through innovative means such as emergent strategy, conscientisation movements and constitutional transformation.
Matariki serves in many roles, two of which are as co-lead for RIVER, an international collective seeking to revitalise Indigenous virtues for Earth’s regeneration and as a facilitator at Tūmanako Consultants which focuses on how to authentically bridge the worlds of te ao Māori and te ao Pākehā. With regards to philanthropy, Matariki supports the Ki Te Hoe wānanga series and has recently been appointed as a trustee for the JR MacKenzie Trust.
We live in transformative times and philanthropy has a unique opportunity to enable fundamental shifts towards a deeper wellbeing, sense of belonging and care for the people, lands and waters of Aotearoa New Zealand.
